Q:My vent exits on the roof which I cannot get to. What is the risk of pushing the vent hood or cap off when cleaning from the inside of house.

      Answer This Question

A:  The LintEater is designed for this application without damaging the roof vent. Roof dryer vent hoods need to be securely fastened to the roof since they have to withstand the elements of rain, wind, snow and ice. When feeding the LintEater into the vent you want to be sensitive to the action of the LintEater so as you approach the vent cap you can feel it stop at the cap. Thank you for your question.

A:  I would say it definitely is a risk. Also, when you use this, you want to be 100% sure you're pushing the lint OUT of the system, not bunching it up at the end of the pipe. In your case, I'd either buy a ladder and start from the roof or just pay a professional.

I highly recommend this product. I've never attempted this task before and I found that it  was much easier than I expected. It had instructions that were very clear and it did the job very well.  Using the vacuum adapter to my shop vac kept the dust to a minimum. Even though the duct did not appear very dirty at the beginning, it still made a huge difference in the dryer output. I ordered both the kit and the optional extention rods seeing that I have a good 27 ft run including the 90 degree bends. They arrived well in advance of the scheduled delivery date. I ran the drill and used the vacuum adapter from both the exterior and again from the interior. I did have to remove the outside vent hood to fit the adapter directly to the ducting. I was very surprised to see how easily the brush went through the two 90 degree bends that are very close together. The extensions are very flexible. Lessons learned: If you're using the vacuum adapter,  be sure that the duct at the opposite end is open for good air flow. It's easy to forget to open the dryer door (if you hadn't disconnected the ductwork yet) or to force the flapper open on the outside of the house. Also,  the extension rods are very flexible. If you happen to have a long run that is outside of the ducting,  it can very quickly twist up on itself. If you find yourself in this situation,  don't run the drill in reverse to clear it. You may run the risk of causing the sections in the duct to disconnect. Just take the end out of the drill and manually untwist it. - A 60+ year old grandma

Worked well; but my dryer installation required me to disassemble the aluminum exhaust work. That made it a two man operation. My helper had to hold the duct steady to prevent it from twisting and keep the shop vac hose in place as I worked the drill and brush. I really had a lot of buildup, so it is probably easier if the cleaning is done at least once a year, I couldn’t believe I had so much stuff since my dryer has a flow sensor that only recently told me I had a build up.

Fantastic for DIY. Saves a lot of money and could prevent a fire in your house.
Ok. I will take my time writting this review because the kit worth it. Great kit. Very easy to use. After discounting what I paid for this kit, I saved - 60 bucks if I paid someone to do it. It's a plus if your duct ends in the roof (do the math because you could need extra rods too). For a cleanest job, use a vacuum with the adaptor sold with the kit: and when the job is done, take out the brush and connect the vacuum in the adapter with hole provided to pass the rods through closed with the the cap provided in the kit. Read the instructions carefully to avoid the brush and or the rods get disconnected in the vent. People complains here about that. It won't happens if you connect the rods in the way they recommend and you make spin the tool clockwise. My vent got clogged, the dryer overheated, and thermostat burned out. A significant % of the residential fires are caused by dryers malfunctions. I paid 100 for fixing it, so I will make you a SUGGESTION: Buy this kit and the extension rods if needed and clean your vents regularly. Once cleaned check it in 3 months to estimate frequency.

This order was delivered fairly quickly, within a week. Very easy to use for our 2nd story laundry room set up and did well to clean the lint from the dryer vent. I worked from the inside of the house and used a Shark vacuum (didn't perfectly attach to included adapter, but duct tape helped) We do not own a wet/dry vac so I had to empty our vacuum canister a few times during the process...no biggie. Included instructions were helpful.

It was very easy to use and it did a great job of cleaning the dryer vent. The written instructions were very clear and there also is a great YouTube video that clearly demonstrates how to use the system. I couldn't believe all the lint that went into the wet/vac.
