Product Overview

DTT tension ties are safe, cost-effective connectors designed to meet or exceed code requirements for deck construction. These versatile DTT connectors are also load rated as a holdown for light-duty shearwalls and braced wall panel applications. The DTT1Z deck tension tie provides a less invasive approach for attaching a new deck to a home or retrofitting an existing deck to current code standards.
  • Eliminates the need to access the floor joists inside the house
  • Ties the guardrail post into deck framing
  • Stronger and safer than nails, lag screws or bolts
  • Ties the deck into the house for a stronger, safer ledger connection
  • Helps prevent a common type of deck failure
  • Made from 14-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with Strong-Drive SD Connector screws or nails and accepts a 3/8 in. machine bolt, anchor bolt, or lag screw (washer required) or can be installed with the new Strong-Drive SDWH Timber-Hex HDG screw with an integral washer

I used these to strengthen some of my floor joists' ability to resist lateral forces involved in a seismic retrofit. These fit the bill nicely, but be sure to purchase the appropriate hardware including either simpson strong-tie timber hex screws or threaded bolt along with washers/nut. Go galvanized for corrosion prevention if there is any doubt about moisture.

I ordered this product online - it is a good product but i could not use it as specified. I did not have a header board to screw into. Just used couple of these. I had to use the DTT2Z-K2 kit , which is heavier duty so i could install it into the basement joists. It worked out well. Simpson products are very good with excellent instructions.

Added these to secure the fascia board on my new deck. I used the Simpson-Strong recommended screws and 3/8" diameter bolts. It works quite well. I'll be mounting the railing on the fascia board.

Excellent product. Was able to attach kitchen soffit to rafters (this was missed when house was originally built) using these Strong-Ties without doing any reconstruction. They worked well with easy installation.

Solves the problem of updating to the new code
Note that the DTT1 is for tying back into the house, and as such has a 3/8 hole. Use the DTT2 for deck posts - it has a 1/2 hole.

    Incorrect hole size?
These have a 3/8" hole for a bolt, yet railing posts require a 1/2" bolt. So i had to drill mine out. I thought these were intended for railing post tie backs...

      Does the job
This piece is significantly less expensive than all of its counterparts. It is not as robust, but it does the job. I had a cupped 2 x 10 on the outside of my deck and that was the only way to pull it back to the other joists. If I had to use the other ties that were more substantial, I would have been better off changing out the boards. The tie holds a 3/8" bolt, so it is not rated for as much weight. Never found a rating. Perfect for what I used it for.

      Deck hardware
A simple and needed item to help resist lateral forces and keep your deck tied to the house. Check simpsons website for proper install. I had to order them for in store pick up which was flawless. This is needed hardware which should be on the shelf though. Spend the money for simpsons various screws for your project. It will go together better and stronger.
