Product Details

DTT tension ties are safe, cost-effective connectors designed to meet or exceed code requirements for deck construction. These versatile DTT connectors are also load rated as a holdown for light-duty shearwalls and braced wall panel applications. The DTT1Z deck tension tie provides a less invasive approach for attaching a new deck to a home or retrofitting an existing deck to current code standards.
  • Eliminates the need to access the floor joists inside the house
  • Ties the guardrail post into deck framing
  • Stronger and safer than nails, lag screws or bolts
  • Ties the deck into the house for a stronger, safer ledger connection
  • Helps prevent a common type of deck failure
  • Made from 14-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with Strong-Drive SD Connector screws or nails and accepts a 3/8 in. machine bolt, anchor bolt, or lag screw (washer required) or can be installed with the new Strong-Drive SDWH Timber-Hex HDG screw with an integral washer

Q:how big around is the bottom hole

    Answer This Question

A:  The DTT1Z is made to use a 3/8" fastener (hex lag screw type) only through the bottom hole. Any modification will nullify the manufacture's warranty. If you need to use a 1/2" fastener/threaded rod, then the DTT2Z is the one you'll need.

A:  3/8 inch. I had to drill out to 1/2" to fit over my through bolts.

A:  The hole in the bottom of the DTT1Z is 0.4375" diameter and is intended for a 3/8" diameter anchor. Thank you!

          Answer This Question

A:  Yes, but I would be sure to drill a hole through the entire 4x4 and secure to the bracket with a galvanized nut and bolt.

This tie worked great to secure a newel post for my front porch stair rail. I used the Strong-Tie kit DTT2Z-RD for the two bottom newel posts and used this DTT1Z in a tight spot for the single upper newel post. I didn't realize this tie was meant for 3/8" bolts, but drilled it out to fit a 1/2" SS bolt like I was using everywhere else.

Exactly what needed to tie a deck to the house
Very strong bracket to tie a deck to the house using the Simpson Strong-Tie 0.276 in. x 8 in. Strong-Drive SDWH bolts (4 of each required by code). Together they do an excellent job.

I used these to provide protection for my rear deck in the event of an earthquake. The engineer who did our plans specified these. Easy to install using my impact driver. And passed the building inspection
